Huckleberry

Some returns are harder than others. And Huckleberry is one of those returns.

Huckleberry is a Ridglan beagle who originally came into our program as a shelter transfer. He is truly as sweet as he looks.

Huckleberry is a bigger beagle, with a thick, squatty body and long ears like a Basset. He’s housetrained, loves the security of his own space and is excellent with other dogs (they are his security blanket). Huckleberry’s biggest struggle is going through doorways, and he’s consistently needed to be carried in and out to go outside to go potty. Even after months, Huckleberry has not made consistent progress coming in and out. And that’s okay, because there is no timeline. Only patience and literal small steps.

We thought we had found Huckleberry the perfect home. A secure, permanent fence, a social dog in the home, and a flexible schedule. A forever home. But then his adopter suffered an injury that severely impacted her back. And she was no longer able to carry him in and out for the foreseeable future. Devastated is an understatement.

Now Huckleberry is back in foster. And looking for another perfect home.

Do you have the patient, loving, quiet home (young children are not considered a quiet home). Do you have a secure (not temporary, not makeshift) fully fenced yard to keep him safe? Do you have another dog in your home that is gentle and social? Is your schedule flexible…and your back strong?!

Then 4 year old, 36 pound fella is ready to live in your lap and have his velvety long ears stroked. He’s ready for his last home.
